Platform 65
A theatrical mash-up of two Singaporean narratives — each dealing with different aspects of the funerary experience in the city. In the semi-autobiographical aWake, a young Singaporean-Chinese girl grapples with the strange Taoist rituals at her late great-grandmother’s funeral wake. In an adaptation of The Coffin is Too Big for the Hole, an insomniac white-collar worker can’t forget about his struggle with bureaucracy to get his grandfather’s oversized coffin buried. Lighting, sound, smells, and projections are used to recreate a sense of everyday Singapore, and the unique sensorial experience of Taoist funerals.
